Tarsahk 7 The PCs meet in Ostrav and begin to investigate a rash of unexplained deaths and disappearances
Tarsahk 8 Ostrav orphanage found empty, children have disappeared. Endora, the town’s lead suspect found in her cell amid the mutilated corpses of her three cell guards. Bloody message scrawled on the wall of Endora’s cell claims the murders for Orcus. Bloody knife found on Endora’s person. Endora appears disoriented and confused, has no memory of the murders. Investigation continues.
Tarsahk 9 Eldrick, guarding Endora’s prison cell himself (with Will Preston and Jim Masticate), awakes due to Endora’s screams. Will Preston stands over him with a knife, poised to strike. Eldrick foils the attack, and Will exhibits similar symptoms to Endora on the previous day.
PCs discover abandoned seminary crypt ruins and go to investigate. PCs are sealed in crypt, and attacked by undead lead by mysterious ‘little girl’, who escapes further into the tomb. Party explores tomb, finds main burial chamber. Eldrick becomes sealed into a trap chamber, and is not seen for many hours. PCS confronted by ‘little girl’ and multiple undead on two separate occasions, but destroy the undead and drive her off. PCs attacked by the animated corpse of Sir Gregory Valentine. Eldrick, released from the trap chamber, arrives and turns the tide of the fight. Valentine is destroyed, and his hammer is recovered by Eldrick.
PCs strike bargain with ‘little girl’ to retrieve a missing artifact she seeks in exchange for releasing them from the crypt, returning the missing children, and leaving Ostrav alone. Minor altercations between ‘little girl’ and Thorosl, Oxxil. Eldrick recovers artifact, an evil-emanating chunk of obsidian. After a few unintentional uses, Eldrick learns that the artifact gives the weight of unignorable compulsion to any command given by the holder. Eldrick tosses the artifact to the ‘little girl’, and when it touches her, blasts off her right hand. ‘Little girl’ retreats by vanishing into the fog.
PCs escape the crypt and return to Ostrav.
Tarsahk 10 Message left in Ostrav from ‘little girl’ demands that PCs carry artifact to Vaasa before next full moon, or the missing children will be killed. PCs prepare to travel north to Vaasa by ferry on the Beaumaris River.
Tarsahk 11 End of first day’s travel sees PCs attacked by bandits of the Citadel of Assassins near midnight.
Tarsahk 12 Party defeats bandits, though all ferrymen and most of the draft horses are slain. Two prisoners taken, Clem and Arty. Mauricio and Oxxil argue over treatment of the dead, and Oxxil attacks Mauricio. Eldrick breaks up the fight, arrests Mauricio, and docks Oxxil a day of pay. During Thoros’l’s interrogation of the prisoners, Arty is killed ‘trying to escape’. Clem reveals the location of a Citadel stronghold. Mauricio is seized by some strange illness and spends most of the night in a feverish coma. When he awakes, Mauricio reveals that he is a disciple of Sune, and asks Eldrick to pray with him.
Tarsahk 13 Mauricio and his servant, Jesse, depart the group and head for the Damaran Gate a few hours ahead of the other PCs, who have stopped to rest and recuperate.
Tarsahk 14 PCs arrive at Damaran gate, where Eldrick turns over the artifact to the Order of the Golden Cup for study. Eldrick and Oxxil brought up on charges of religious persecution by Mauricio.
Tarsahk 15 Many divinations reveal that the gods themselves are unable or unwilling to discuss the artifact. The party attempts to find answers in research, but with little success.
Tarsahk 16 Blackened Wall mercenaries and Miranda and Alexander Caenar transported to Vaasa to scout ahead while Eldrick protests the Order keeping the artifact for more study. Thoros’l is left a note designating the meeting point for delivery of the artifact.
Tarsahk 17 Eldrick and Will arrive in Vaasa with the artifact and reunite with the rest of the PCs. At the meeting point, they are confronted by the ‘little girl’ (who is revealed to be Xavier Palluk) and an unknown man dressed head to toe in horrifying demonic plate armor, riding a nightmare. The armored man commands Eldrick to relinquish the stone, and Eldrick is compelled to do so. The armored man then commands Palluk to keep his end of the bargain. Palluk does so, and the party is given a portable hole, later discovered to be the interdimensional prison of several (but not all) of the missing children.
Tarsahk 18-21 Eldrick returns the rescued children to Ostrav, and participates in both the celebration of the returned, and the funerals of the presumed dead. He is named ‘Hero of Ostrav’ for his part in solving the mystery and driving away the evil ‘little girl’ creature.
Tarsahk 22 Eldrick travels back to the Damaran Gate. Having brought up a counter-suit against Mauricio, each of the trio of accused must defend themselves in court. The results of the trial are inconclusive, but Eldrick, Oxxil, and Mauricio are ordered to spend the next year collaborating peacefully with one another in order to gain a better understanding of different religious practices. For his negligence that allowed a lawful prisoner to come to harm, Eldrick will no longer be reimbursed for paying wages to non-approved mercenaries. The Blackened Wall and the Caenars must now be paid out of Eldrick’s own pockets.
Mauricio leaves for Heliogabalus to set his affairs in order for a one-year absence.
Clem, the surviving bandit prisoner, is granted clemency in return for serving as a ward to Eldrick.
Eldrick is assigned a new mission, to locate the Citadel stronghold in western Damara, and disrupt its operations.
Tarsahk 23-28 The PCs travel south to Valls. A cold snap which brought a near-blizzard nearly froze the party to death, for they were not prepared for such a dramatic turn from early-Spring weather.
Tarsahk 29 The party finds the illusion-disguised entrance to the cave which serves as the threshold for the Citadel stronghold. Finding a way to bypass its defenses, Thoros’l leads the party into the base, but a trap reacting to enchantments on some of Jim’s items causes an explosion that temporarily deactivates the entrance portal, leaving Oxxil and Eldrick stranded outside with the now-active defenses—a summoned earth elemental. They are forced to flee, but only temporarily, and after waylaying a returning bandit patrol, return to find the stronghold’s defenses deactivated.
Along with Clem, the PCs inside pose as new recruits of the Citadel and meet Ogdus, an unlikeable mage lieutenant of the Citadel who shares leadership of the stronghold with two fellow mages. Odgus takes an immediate liking to Miranda, which doesn’t sit well with many of the males in the party.
Later, as the party gets to know the lay of the land in the stronghold, Odgus makes a play for Miranda by charming her, and Thoros’l viciously attacks him, blowing the party’s cover. A savage melee ensues, in which Ogdus is killed and Thoros’l, Will, and Clem are subdued and carted off to the dungeons. Jim escapes capture by rendering himself invisible, and Miranda and Alexander narrowly escape death by fireball by throwing themselves down the stronghold’s well.
Jim sneaks into the dungeon area of the stronghold where he discovers Clem being tortured for information. Will and Thoros’l, both unconscious, are being kept in separate cells, and another (previously unknown) prisoner is also present. As the cells are magically silenced, Jim’s magic is useless, but he still is able to free the prisoners and begin a hasty retreat back toward the entrance.
The unknown prisoner is an amnesiac who calls himself Sirius, and he decides to follow the party, since it is his only chance at freedom.
Miranda and Alexander escape the well, and are eventually reunited with the rest of the party.
When the bandits discover the prison break, they strike back in force, and another fierce battle ensues. Eldrick manages to gain entry to the fortress and joins the struggle at the same time that Oxxil, still stranded outside, encounters Bedmay, a gentler peer of Ogdus’s. Oxxil is subdued and charmed by the mage, and the two sit down for a lengthy chat and then leave together.
The battle for the stronghold won, the PCs inside search for a way out of the Citadel fortress, and make their way to the upper levels, where the mages lived. They discover the interdimensional chamber of the stronghold’s true master, Knellict—the archmage second-in-command of the Citadel, but fortunately for the PCs, he is not present. Alexander appropriates some books from Knellict’s library, and Eldrick leaves a snarky note for the archmage, intimating that his minions had failed him, and that Knellict himself would soon fall as well. The PCs also discover a mirror that acts as a one-way portal to parts unknown. After Will and Eldrick disappear through the portal, the rest of the party begins to have second thoughts and attempt to find another way out.
As the PCs discover that the entrance portal once again is operable, they begin to file out, but Jim (the second one through) still carries some magical items, which once again causes the portal’s trap to trigger, this time destroying the portal and the defensive mechanisms themselves, and blasting Jim into unconsciousness.
With no other recourse, the Caenars and Sirius decide to return to the mirror and pass through.
Tarsahk 30 Cut off from one another, the various members of the party regroup and start back toward the Damaran Gate. Thoros’l and Jim first head toward Valls looking for Oxxil, and once they find him, alone and disoriented, start back toward northern Damara to look for the others.
Will, Miranda, and Sirius end up at the Vaasan Gate, and quickly alert the authorities to the presence of a Citadel-controlled portal to the city. The trio were brought before the leadership of the Order to testify on the events of the mission and received some startling news.
Eldrick and Alexander find themselves in the sewers below Heliogabalus and, once they emerge, decide to visit with Eldrick’s family before heading back to the Damaran Gate. He discovers that Mauricio’s business in Heliogabalus included the making of a dress for Eldrick’s mother, Madeleine Oks, and met Mauricio’s new hired muscle, Odgion Draidn.
Mirtul 3 The party is reunited at the Damaran Gate, and find that the former leader of the Order of the Golden Cup, Sir Tandarduk, was revealed to belong to a heretical sect of the church of Ilmater known as the Angels of Ilmater. He fled with several members of his flock shortly after sending Eldrick and company on what he assumed to be a suicide mission to attack the Citadel stronghold. Sirius is revealed to be King Gareth Dragonsbane in disguise, overdue on his return from his absence. The King had adopted the disguise to travel in safety during his one-year pilgrimage, and apparently had suffered some traumatic event that caused his amnesia. He professed to have no memories prior to waking up in the Citadel dungeon. Though Gareth’s wounds were healed and his form was restored, his memories have yet to be recovered. He
Mirtul 4 King Dragonsbane honors Eldrick and company in a ceremony that marks his official return to the governance of the Bloodstone Lands. Will is named ‘Apprentice Knight of the Order’ in recognizance of his unique heroism in the battle against the Citadel.
Mirtul 5 The PCs prepare for a journey across the wastelands of Vaasa to Palishchuk, city of the half-orcs in search of clues as to the next move of Palluk and the demonic-armored man.
Mirtul 6 Mauricio returns (with Odgion) to the Damaran Gate with ill tidings. The Citadel, under Knellict’s command, attempted to assassinate Eldrick’s parents, Titus and Madeleine Oks, but the attempt was foiled by Odgion and himself. Eldrick’s parents are being accepted into the King’s protective custody and will soon relocate to Bloodstone Village until the situation with Knellict can be sorted out. Eldrick grudgingly thanks Mauricio and accepts him and Odgion into the newly formed ‘Companion Protectors of Damara’, the formal name for the PC band.
King Gareth offers to absolve Eldrick of his part in the sentence concerning himself, Oxxil, and Mauricio, but Eldrick declines.
Mirtul 7 The PCs leave the Vaasan Gate for Palischuk.
Mirtul 11 The PCs encounter major difficulties after a cluster of carnivorous plants target them as dinner.
Mirtul 14 The PCs’ camp is approached in the night by a pair of dwarves and a halfling belonging to Wolfswift’s Men, a band of adventurers led by Watlin Wolfswift—a scion of Sembian merchant nobility. The dwarves declare the party trespassers in Wolfswift’s lands, and Eldrick, Oxxil, Mauricio, and Odgion accompany the halfling back to their camp to negotiate.
The meet does not go well, as Wolfswift offers forgiveness at too high a price for Eldrick’s liking, and negotiations break down into open battle. Worse still, a large band of hungry trolls happen upon the campsite and join the melee, forcing the two adventuring bands to work together to survive.
The dwarves and the rest of the party rush to the aid of their respective friends, and a desperate battle follows, in which almost all of Wolfswift’s Men are slain, and many of the Companion Protectors are seriously wounded.
Eldrick himself is rendered ethereal by a wand misfire, and is unable to communicate with anyone else. When the party retreats back to their camp, Eldrick instead follows the apparent lone survivor of the opposing party, a soothsayer named Taena who he hopes can help him.
The rest of the PCs return to the camp to find it ransacked. Will, who was left as rearguard, is missing, as is all of the party’s mounts and much of their gear and there is sign of a struggle and tracks leading off to the south. The PCs decide to follow the trail and try to catch up to their missing comrade.
Mirtul 15 Eldrick discovers that the two dwarves also survived and link up with Taena. The trio seem to be headed in the general direction of Palishchuk, and Eldrick continues to follow.
Mirtul 16 The PCs pursuing Will are led into a bottomless bog, and several party members must be rescued from drowning.
Mirtul 18 Will’s captors are tracked to a cave in the Galenas on the southern edge of Vaasa. They are found to be gnoll and goblin slavers, and once they are defeated, Will is rescued, though all the horses were slaughtered and eaten. He mentions having seen a pair of drow speaking with the gnoll leader, and suspects that he was meant to be taken to the Underdark. The party finds what it believes to be a portal to that sunless hell, but they cannot find a way to open it and so they abandon the cave and start back toward Palishchuk.
Mirtul 19 Eldrick arrives in Palishchuk with Taena and the two dwarves, but is still unable to communicate with anyone, though he begins to suspect that Taena is at least aware of him.
Mirtul 20 Eldrick is restored to corporeal form by Arrayan, niece of Wingham, who is a powerful wizardess after he was detected in a meeting between Taena and Wingham. Taena disappears from the city a short time later, the dwarves with her. No one can account for how they left.
The PCs arrive in Palishchuk after being ambushed only hours outside the city. Their attackers were winged goblins with scaly skin, and when slain they turned to stone, then exploded a short time later. No sense could be made of the attack or the strange creatures. The Companion Protectors report this strange attack to the Palishchuk authorities, but are not taken seriously.
Thoros’l and Will arrange to speak with Baron Wingham, the governor of the state and protector of the city. During the meeting, it is revealed that Eldrick is in the city, and when he has recuperated from his ordeal, he rejoins the party and they go searching for traces of Palluk or the demonic-armored man.
Mirtul 21 The PCs find a lead and head to an inn on the outskirts of town. Someone matching Palluk’s description was seen there with an older gentleman, and they rented a room for a full month, but have not been seen since. Eldrick and party go to the room and find a table covered in maps and notes. Eldrick finds a letter addressed to him. One of the maps shows a large circle inscribed over much of the Moonsea area and seven smaller circles along the edge of the larger. Eldrick claims to recognize the sight from a vision given to him by Ilmater while he followed Taena, and is certain that each of the circles represents an artifact linked to the one found in Ostrav. Indeed, one of the circles does center near the sleepy farming cluster. The party resolves to trek back across the bogs to Damara and share their findings with the Order before deciding their next move.
Mirtul 22 The party leaves Palishchuk for Damara.
Kythorn 2 The party arrives at the Vaasan Gate and are summoned to Bloodstone Village for an audience with the King and high-ranking members of the Order.
Kythorn 3 The party attends the birthday party for King Gareth thrown by the new Bloodstone Registrant-General, Lord Dannin Thistle.
Kythorn 4 The party is awakened in the wee hours of the morning to find that Lord Thistle had been murdered sometime after the party the previous night. After much investigation, it was revealed that this was not, in fact, the case. Lord Thistle had been kidnapped by the Emerald Swords, a mercenary band working for Zhentil Keep. Xixis, a doppleganger and member of the band, had replaced Thistle, but had run afoul of the leaders of the Swords and was murdered. The party solved the odd mystery, arrested the Emerald Swords, and rescued Lord Thistle.
Kythorn 7 The party leaves Bloodstone Valley on a journey south to Impiltur. The idea is to catch a ship to Selgaunt, Sembia in order to find the Chosen of Oghma, Sephris Dwendon, for possible information on the strange coded messages Eldrick found in Palishchuk.
Will Preston leaves the party, reassigned to his own squad of Bloodstone soldiers, and begins his mission to escort the imprisoned Emerald Swords out of the Bloodstone Lands.
Kythorn 9 The party passes through Goliad and Wassen.
Kythorn 10 The party arrives in Morovar.
Kythorn 11 The party arrives in Heliogabalus. Eldrick is questioned at the gate by a guard the mistakes him for Sgt. Will Preston. Mauricio and Odgion head to Mauricio’s shop, the rest of the party lodges at the Oks’ manor. Eldrick discovers a package left for him, a porcelain statuette that he discovers is actually Taena, polymorphed by Knellict.
Kythorn 12 Each member of the party spends the day in Heliogabalus pursuing his/her own interests. Mauricio is visited by Knellict in his shop, with an ultimatum: pay a monthly tribute to his employers, or be destroyed. The party meets with this information, and a plot to assassinate Knellict is briefly considered, but scrapped when it is deemed too expensive.
Kythorn 13 Eldrick hires a wizard to examine the statuette of Taena. Mauricio (and others) returns to his shop to find a neighboring business, Tazmekella’s Bag of Silver, in flames. Oxxil rushes to aid the firefighters.
Kythorn 14 The party leaves Heliogabalus after a brief interrogation at the South Gate. By day’s end, they arrive in Praka. As they wait overnight for a ferry to Trailsend, Mauricio, Jesse, and Thoros’l visit a local festhall, where Mauricio throws a huge party.
Kythorn 15 The party arrives by ferry in Trailsend, and starts the long journey down the Merchant’s Run to Lenchford, the Impilturian border town. Just outside town, they encounter Partic Wolfswift and the Gold Coins, also travelling south.
Kythorn 20 The Companion Protectors and the Gold Coins reach Lenchford and cross the border into Impiltur.
Kythorn 21 The combined party reaches Mulltown, and spend the evening in celebration of the end of a long, arduous portion of their journey.
Kythorn 22 During the wee hours of the morning, Vegsvin House (where the party is staying) is attacked by a horde of demons. The Protectors unite with the Gold Coins to drive off or destroy the invaders. After a heroic battle that sees an unfortunately large number of civilian casualties, the demons are defeated.
